Ankle fractures: from anatomy to definitive care
About this collection
This free collection brings together medpresso materials on ankle fractures in a suggested order: four webinars from SONA Global and the Harvard Global Orthopaedics Collaborative (HGOC), two reviews from the guidelines section and a clinical case. The path moves from normal anatomy and radiographic assessment through emergency management and paediatric fractures to post-traumatic osteoarthritis and ankle arthrodesis. Each item is a separate material on the platform: open it from the list below. Certificates, where available, are issued for each item.

Ankle Anatomy and Radiographic Correlation: Understanding the Foundations of Joint Stability
(Webinar · 10 min · Free)
Start here: the bones and ligaments that keep the ankle stable and how they appear on AP, mortise and lateral views, including the medial clear space, tibiofibular overlap and tibiofibular clear space used throughout this collection. -
Radiographic evaluation and classification of ankle fractures
(Webinar · 6 min · Free)
Applies those parameters to injured ankles: case-based X-rays separate stable from unstable fracture patterns and set out criteria for surgical versus non-operative treatment. -
Ankle Fractures and Joint Stability: Principles of Emergency Management and Treatment Decisions
(Webinar · 12 min · Free)
From diagnosis to first treatment: open versus closed fractures, the Weber classification, early reduction, haematoma block, splinting, and when syndesmotic widening, deltoid disruption or an open injury needs urgent referral. -
Ankle fractures in children
(Guideline · Free)
How the growth plate changes the picture: an EFORT Open Reviews 2021 review of imaging, Salter–Harris and transitional (juvenile Tillaux, triplanar) fractures, and the displacement thresholds for surgery. -
Ankle osteoarthritis: comprehensive review and treatment algorithm proposal
(Guideline · Free)
The long-term view: most ankle osteoarthritis is post-traumatic. Assessment, conservative care, realignment osteotomy, fusion and ankle replacement, combined into a stage-based algorithm. -
Ankle arthrodesis: surgical principles, techniques, and outcomes
