Pectoralis major & anterior latissimus dorsi transfer for subscapularis tears
Tears in the subscapularis muscle that cannot be repaired present a complex challenge, particularly when they occur in younger individuals who have significant functional requirements. Surgical solutions often include tendon transfers as a viable option to manage this condition. This webinar aims to examine the surgical methodology and the outcomes associated with the two most prevalent tendon transfer approaches employed for addressing irreparable subscapularis tears: the pectoralis major transfer and the latissimus dorsi transfer.
Historically, the pectoralis major transfer has been the preferred choice. In contrast, a more recent alternative involves the transfer of the latissimus dorsi muscle to the lesser tuberosity. This approach is supported by solid biomechanical reasoning and has shown promising results in the short term.
