Global Aging and Modern Geriatric Care

Global population aging is rapidly transforming healthcare systems, societies, and clinical practice worldwide. Aging is a lifelong biological process shaped by complex interactions between genetic predisposition, environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, and socioeconomic conditions. As longevity increases across both developed and developing regions, healthcare systems are facing unprecedented challenges related to chronic disease burden, multimorbidity, frailty, disability, and long-term care needs.

Demographic transitions, including urbanization, migration, declining caregiver availability, and the growing proportion of the oldest-old population, are significantly altering traditional models of social and medical support. In parallel, older adults increasingly experience multiple coexisting chronic conditions and geriatric syndromes, requiring more comprehensive and integrated models of care.

Modern geriatric medicine has therefore evolved toward a multidisciplinary, function-oriented approach that prioritizes preservation of independence, intrinsic capacity, and quality of life rather than disease management alone. Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), preventive strategies, rehabilitation, and community-based care models now represent essential components of healthy aging initiatives worldwide.

This webinar explores the biological, demographic, and clinical foundations of global aging, reviews the major healthcare challenges associated with aging populations, and highlights the evolving role of geriatric medicine in promoting functional ability and healthy longevity across diverse healthcare systems.
