Elbow Resisted Muscle Strength

Anatomical Movement: Elbow joint resisted flexion and extension.
Testing position: Patient is standing or seated with the shoulder adducted by the body midline, elbow at 90 degrees of flexion. Patient’s forearm in supination. Examiner stabilizes the elbow with one hand and the other hand placed on the palm to resist active elbow flexion. Next, patient’s forearm in pronation. Examiner stabilizes the elbow with one hand and the other hand placed on the palm to resist active elbow extension.
Expected Findings: Patient should maintain an end point range against maximum resistance to satisfy grade 5 'normal muscle’ criteria.
