The Short-Term Effect of Prunes in Improving Bone in Men
It is well known that consumption of fruits and vegetables has health-protective effects, including bone loss, where microstructure and density are the key factors of strength. Among all natural supplement, prunes are rich in a variety of nutrients, as vitamin K, magnesium, and potassium, playing an important role in bone health. Three groups of male patients in this research took 50g, 100g or no prunes daily during 3 months. Such biomarkers as serum osteoprotegerin and serum osteocalcin were then reviewed. The results indicate that with regular consumption, prunes have a minimal effect on levels of inflammation but improvements in some bone biomarkers were noticeable.
