The magic suture technique

Direct skin defect closure is frequently more beneficial in contrast to skin grafting of flaps for small lesions particulary those located in face. Authors from UK published a subcutaneous suture placement technique that allows direct closure of larger defects in periocular zone. The notion of face skin mobility and tissue expantion over time when under the tension helped to design a different approach. For this technique the direction of tension must be parallel to the tangent at the nearest point on the lid margin, no matter what is the defect’s axes. As such, the final scar will be perpendicular to the lid margin. Importantly, the bite length on each wound side should be no less than 5 mm. Authors use an absorbable suture, however state that the actual material is not that important. Check the clinical example and pictorial guide by the link!
