Occupational Therapy's for Chronic Pain Management

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that chronic pain (CP) is more than a symptom. CP is highlighted as a disease in the International Classification of Diseases. Multiple remedies are being used to battle this pathology, however no golden standard treatment is found yet. Occupational therapy (OT) is one of the most used treatments that focuses on patient occupation. The aim of this systematic review by Canadian authors included 52 sources to find out the latest updates about the OT role and methods used in adults. Authors state that occupational therapists should have specific skills in their approach, be focused on patient occupation and engage daily treatment process. The current study provides a clear understanding that OT is essential in CP management and a referral to an occupational therapist heavily depends on allied medical professionals’ knowledge and understanding about OT.
