What is mood?

An article published by Cambridge University Press has the answer! The brain, like other biological systems, seeks to maintain its physiological (and psychological) state in the face of a constantly changing internal and external environment. Literature suggests that the brain is in the game of predicting its sensorium and working to minimise the difference between these predictions and actual sensory input. According to the authors, mood reflect the prior expectation about precision in confidence or uncertainty. They suggested that mood acts as an indicator for emotional states. This detailed research helps to understand such disorders as autism and schizophrenia. More by the link.
