Prevention and treatment of PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder is a common debilitating condition. There is much debate on how best to prevent and treat this pathological state, with a diverse range of pharmacological, psychological and other approaches. One of the fundamental works summing up all the latest evidence based recommendations is the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) Treatment Guidelines. Psychological treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy is the first line therapy. Pharmacological regimen with fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline and venlafaxine show a good evidence on reducing PTSD symptoms in adults.
