Nano-Medicine for the Cardiovascular System

Authors from Birmingham, USA published an overview on some of the main types of nano-medicine technologies that are currently being explored for use for cardiac pathology. Scientists give a special attention to the major differences between known systems, and how these differences affect the specific therapeutic or diagnostic applications. There are two nano-medicine types- organic or inorganic. Organic substrates mostly consist of a carbon backbone, hydrogen, oxygen or nitrogen. In contrast, inorganic substrates include salts, metal oxides and metal frameworks. Authors also distinguish several types of delivery methods. Delivery of growth factors and small molecules allows to achieve remuscularization and revascularization of the damaged region, reducing inflammatory signals. New advanced delivery include inhalation. This method allows to surpass previous needs for painful implantation procedures or injections.
