MSTS 2025 in Mexico City — A New Era for Sarcoma Research
The Musculoskeletal Tumor Society held its 2025 Annual Meeting from December 3–5 in Mexico City — the first time the society gathered in Latin America. This milestone underscored MSTS’s expanding global reach.
Organizers reported a record number of abstract submissions, reflecting growing worldwide interest in musculoskeletal oncology.
The meeting delivered a compact but dense program, combining clinical, translational, and data-driven science across bone and soft-tissue tumors:
- Soft-tissue sarcoma presentations ranged from advanced wound-healing protocols (e.g. negative-pressure therapy after irradiation) to liquid-biopsy techniques and immunotherapy strategies — signaling a push toward precision and personalized oncology.
- Attendees received an update on long-term efficacy of systemic therapies for tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT), as well as findings from the global, multicenter surveillance trial after extremity-tumor surgery.
- Researchers presented AI and machine-learning models for sarcoma subtyping and survival-prediction.
- Sessions included in-vitro studies with novel therapeutic combinations and analyses of survival predictors using large registries.
- The meeting highlighted ongoing work in global tumor registries and tissue-bank development, including prospective studies on quality-of-life in pediatric bone-sarcoma survivors.
By coming to Mexico City, MSTS broadened its audience and fostered meaningful international dialogue. For sarcoma specialists — surgeons, oncologists, pathologists and allied health professionals — especially in underrepresented regions, the meeting offered opportunities to exchange experience, forge collaborations, and access cutting-edge science.
The breadth of research — from AI-enhanced diagnostics and registry-based global data suggested that sarcoma research is accelerating on multiple fronts.
For clinicians and researchers who were unable to attend, the post-meeting materials — e-posters, trial summaries, registry reports — will provide a vital resource to remain updated on advances in musculoskeletal oncology.
At Medpresso, we will continue to follow MSTS 2025’s aftermath — offering concise summaries of major findings and highlighting the innovations that may shape the future of tumor orthopaedics.
