Medical Cannabis in the Treatment of Parkinson's Disease

Continuing the trending topic on medical use of cannabis authors from New York published an article in Clinical Neuropharmacology Journal this month to explore the impact of this herbal medication on the symptomatic treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease. The study included 69 patients, where researchers looked into symptom changes after initiation of treatment and adverse events. Most patients initially started the treatment scheme from a 1:1 tincture (∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol:cannabidiol). The results reported are very promising and require large, placebo-controlled, randomized studies. Such symptoms as pain, spasticity, lack of appetite, dyskinesia, and tremor were among the most improved complaints. Moreover, 56% of opioid users in a study group were able to decrease or discontinue morphine intake. As for the adverse events, generally the treatment was well-tolerated with no severe complaints recorded. More by the link!
