Management of Lateral Epicondylitis: A Narrative Literature Review

One of the most widespread pain source for upper extremity is elbow. A pathology named "tennis elbow" is common for any physically active individual and affects 1-3% of the population, so participation in racket sports is not necessary. A recent review by Chinese group of authors provides an update in management options of lateral epicondylitis. Interestingly, up to 80% cases recover within one year and are self-limiting. Pathologic stage (I-IV) and clinical classification (I-VII) help to choose the right treatment regimen. Nonoperative treatment include: activity modification, physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory medications (effective within 4 weeks in the treatment), counterforce bracing, autologous blood and platelet-rich plasma injections. Surgical interventions are also described in detail in the article.
