Lower Rates of Carcinoma Among Cannabis Users

Clinical cannabis application has been widely discussed for the last decade. There are more and more countries where recreational use of marijuana is being legalized. Authors from US performed a large database analysis, including over a 101 million patients between 2002 and 2014. The aim was to investigate is there any relation between hepatocellular carcinoma and cannabis use in humans, since the one was identified in mice. Cannabis users were surprisingly 55% less likely to have HCC compared to control group. A direct causation effect could be found only with a prospective study, so this is only a beginning of this investigation that might help to find a desired prophylaxis method one day.
