Full Liquid Diet

According to StatPearls Publishing article, restrictive diets are often used in elective or emergent procedures, in patients with irregular gastrointestinal function and dysphagia. Certain food limitations can be strictly no food or liquids allowed by mouth, that will be gradually increased until reaching normal nutrition. One stage in that progression is a full liquid diet. It is defined as a liquid and semi-liquid diet that excludes any form of solid food. Compared to other liquid diet variants that are non-opaque, a this one is more inclusive allowing all types of liquids. Moreover, authors state that historically a full-liquid diet can be supplemented with commercial nutritional formulas that provide a sufficient caloric intake for patients. Perioperative period remains the main indication for this diet. Get more information by the link!
