Biomarkers of aging

A large group of researchers from China tried to find answers on such a question: "Do we truly know how old we are biologically?". In this work they aimed to find and describe biomarkers of aging- parameters of the physiological aging process, to measure and predict any changes leading to a pathological state. These biomarkers reflect aging changes at the cellular, organ, and organismal levels. Authors suggest 10 aspects to track changes and provide a detailed review of each (epigenetic changes, genetic instability, cell cycle arrest, mitochondrial malfunction, etc). Moreover, there are specific biomarkers for each organ, and some of these are shared by several organs or interconnected via compensatory mechanisms. Follow further reviews to find out what is responsible for brain, cardiac, muscle and vascular aging processes. Understanding of these processes is required for developing efficient strategy to modulate and minimize the negative influence of aging. Original article is by the link!
