Arterial hypertension – Clinical trials update
Not even the use of various treatment modalities can provide blood pressure control to guideline-recommended target levels. As such, authors from Germany aimed to summarize most relevant clinical trials published in 2020-2021. Epidemiology. A total of 20,221 cases of new-onset hypertension were documented and with median follow-up of 6.5 years, 2008 deaths were reported. Hypertension is associated with an elevated risk for cardiovascular diseases and mortality. The younger the age of hypertension onset- the stronger is the association. Diagnosis. Some trials suggested that 1 week of HBP monitoring (measured twice in the morning and twice in the evening) may be the most reliable method for diagnosing hypertension. Therapy. Salt restriction and lifestyle modification are the most practical treatment options. Pharmaceutical management include sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists as the most effective.
