Alcohol’s Impact on the Cardiovascular System
This Canadian narrative review focuses on standardization of alcohol exposure on cardiovascular system. Numerous research works indicate a complex relationship between various alcohol amount consumption and such pathologies as ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, stroke, cardiomyopathy and heart failure. An interesting finding is that the risk was similar for lifetime abstainers and people who consume alcohol in heavy drinking episodes. However, there is an evidence indicating a non-linear relationships between a drinking pattern and a pathology type. Authors also discourage the recommendation of alcohol intake as a prevention measure due to the substantial risks for many health outcomes.
