A novel approach for Alzheimer’ disease

Lately, there have been some research works looking into the connection between central nervous system and abdominal organs. Authors from China studied an interaction between white adipose tissue and brain. It was found that brain microstructure and lesions are closely related to adipose tissue. As Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology is described by atrophy of specific brain regions, changes in microstructure and vascular dysfunction, a newly found connection to white adipose tissue is promising for treatment strategies of such neurodegenerative disorders. A lot of attention is dedicated to fatty acids, since both adipose tissue metabolism and Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis are involved. These potential signaling pathways and underlying molecular mechanisms are worth of further investigation. Details by the link.
