A High-Protein and Low-Glycemic Formula Diet Improves Blood Pressure and Other Hemodynamic Parameters in High-Risk Individuals

A research team from Germany studied an effect of high-protein and low-glycemic diet in high-risk patients with overweight and obesity. These individuals are known to have accompanying comorbidities like hypertension, cardiac neuropathy and arterial stiffness. Up to date, a lifestyle modification is known to have a strong impact on weight management. A study group of 308 volunteers had a meal replacement regimen with a liquid soy-yogurt-honey-based formula diet for 6 months. Laboratory data and body composition were collected at baseline as well as after 6, and 12 months. The suggested therapeutic approach combining lifestyle interventions with an accompanying diet regimen led to a clinically relevant outcome regarding hemodynamic parameters. The authors concluded that it can be considered as a valid option for the management of cardiovascular risk factors.
