Beneficial Properties of Bromelain
In recent times, there has been a notable surge in the exploration of plants and their inherent compounds for potential medicinal applications. Among these, bromelain, derived from pineapple plants, stands out as a promising natural compound employed across various medical domains. Interestingly, while only around 25% of the pineapple is utilized as a marketable food product, the remaining 75% comprising leaves, crown, stem, and bark is often deemed agricultural waste. However, the captivating therapeutic attributes of this plant are largely credited to the presence and actions of bromelain. This chemical constituent boasts the broadest and most intricate spectrum of biological activities within the pineapple. Studies have confirmed the efficient absorption of bromelain post oral intake, with no significant adverse effects even upon prolonged use. Researchers from Poland have synthesized available scientific findings, highlighting bromelain's diverse biological properties, proposing its potential as a supportive and prophylactic treatment for COVD-19. The anticipated anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and anti-coagulatory functions of bromelain could potentially serve as a supplementary therapeutic approach. Furthermore, bromelain's conceivable applications have demonstrated positive impacts on cardiovascular and infectious diseases, inflammatory conditions, and specific cancer types.
