WCIM 2026 is the 38th World Congress of Internal Medicine, hosted by the Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine under the theme AI, Medicine, and Humanity into the Future. The organizers describe a broad programme spanning research, medical education and clinical practice, with dedicated attention to geriatrics, ethics and critical care. Congress chair Ming-Shiang Wu presents the meeting as a global platform where internists exchange ideas while staying rooted in the humanistic values of the profession.
The scientific programme mixes special lectures, keynotes and symposia across the subspecialties. Topics include cardiorenal care with SGLT2 and RAAS inhibitors, phenotype-guided treatment of hypertension, precision medicine in kidney disease and oncology, hepatitis B elimination, dementia prevention and One Health approaches to antimicrobial resistance. Several sessions focus on artificial intelligence, from AI in healthcare and medical education to its use in kidney disease, hematology, cancer pathology and digestive medicine. Symposia on liver-cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome reflect the interest of the congress in multisystem disease.
Joint symposia bring in partner organisations: ACP and ISIM discuss physician shortages in rural and underserved areas, ISIM and EFLM link laboratory and internal medicine, and ISIM with ILEP covers preventive cardiology and lipids. Short oral presentations run alongside the main sessions, and a careers symposium addresses training and long-term success in internal medicine. One symposium on medical ethics and gender issues is held in Mandarin Chinese.
