CROI 2027, the 34th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, brings HIV researchers and clinicians to San Diego to present new findings on HIV, viral hepatitis, SARS-CoV-2, mpox and their related conditions. The organizers describe it as a research meeting built around scientific discussion, where participants are expected to contribute to the conversation rather than just listen.

The preliminary programme opens on Sunday with workshops for new researchers and trainees, on clinical trial design, on laboratory science and on case-based clinical management, followed by the opening session with the Bernard Fields, Martin Delaney and N'Galy-Mann lectures. The next three days combine morning plenaries, oral abstract sessions, themed discussions, poster sessions and afternoon symposia. Announced symposium topics include low-level viremia, HIV and substance use, hepatitis B in people with HIV, mortality among people with HIV, immunotherapy, and bringing HIV treatment and prevention into primary care. Plenary talks cover the antiretroviral therapy landscape, paediatric HIV and cure research, implementation science, HIV in the central nervous system, vaccine-preventable conditions and cancer in people with HIV.

For those who cannot travel, the organizers plan a virtual programme: registered attendees can watch presentations live or view recordings posted within hours, and all posters are available online. Attendance is limited to people involved in research, clinical care and related scientific work; staff in commercial roles such as marketing or medical affairs are not eligible.
